Update: Bugfix available for Printing errors after current Microsoft security update dated August 9, 2016

Microsoft has confirmed this problem is due to a bug in their code. They are currently working on a hotfix for the issue. ETA for the hotfix is TBD. Updates will be posted as soon as they are available. Should you receive error messages when printing labels (Bartender Error 3700, 3721 or Windows Error 995,1804, 122), please refer to the service news on the AEB service portal for information on the current status of solving the problem.


Update: 

We would like to inform you that the Bartender provider, Seagull Scientific, has published a solution regarding the printing errors caused by the latest Microsoft security update since August on its website.

 

Please proceed according to the following bugfixing routine:

Please note that a system restart will be absolutely necessary after installation of the bugfix!

 

Step 1: First, install the following two security updates in the correct order:

First: Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3177725)

Then: Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3176493)

 

Step 2: Install patch KB3187022 for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows Vista, Server 2008, Server 2012, Server 2012 R2 which will fix the bug.

 

Step 3: Restart the system after installation.

If your AEB software solution is using BarTender for label printing, we would like to provide you with the following information:

 

The manufacturer of BarTender, Seagull Scientific, has reported printing problems with the latest security updates from Microsoft!

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3177725)

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3176493)

We therefore advise you NOT to install the security update for now.

 

If you have installed the security updates, the following symptoms may occur:

Two to three labels are printed without any problems, then the following error messages are shown:

Bartender:

Error 3700

BarTender cannot use printer "printername" to design, print or export a document due to a printer setup problem.

or

Error 3721

BarTender cannot use printer "printername" to design, print, or export a template due to a printer setup problem.

A Windows error code was returned: "data"

Error message: "data"

 

Windows error messages:

Error 995 Error_Operation_Aborted The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.

Error 1804 Error_Invalid_Datatype The specified datatype is invalid.

Error 122 Error_Insufficient_Buffer The data area passed to a system call is too small.

 

Seagull Scientific has created a Website on the issue which is constantly being updated.

The Seagull developers are collaborating with Microsoft to find a solution for the problem.

Am vergangenen Wochenende (24.11. und 25.11.2018) hat der Dienstleister trans-o-flex an seinem SFTP Server mit dem Namen sftp.tof.de, die technische IP-Adresse geändert. Der Servername wurde beibehalten.
